In 1981, Dr. Ruf was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and since then has pursued an aggressive schedule of professional meetings and courses to maintain, as well as advance his knowledge and skills. He has spoken on various topics at local, regional and national meetings. He has undergone cosmetic surgery himself. Teaching Residents in Surgery at Memorial Health University has been an ongoing part of Dr. Ruf's professional activities. He holds a Teaching appointment to the Mercer University Department of Surgery as Clinical Assistant Professor. Special interests include cosmetic procedures of the face and breasts, body contouring - including lifts and liposuction, laser work, hair transplantation, birth deformities - especially cleft lips and prominent ears, and finally, hand surgery.
